Frequently Asked Questions

Please check below for answers to our most commonly asked questions.

If your question is not answered below, please feel free to e
-mail us at dance@allureballroom.com and we will happily answer your question for you!

Do I need a partner?

No! In fact dancing is a great way to meet new friends and dance partners.

Do I have to switch partners in class?

We urge and encourage everyone to change partner in our group classes. As novice dances, we all develop lead–follow mistakes.  Our change-of-partners policy helps everyone avoid falling into pitfalls that are difficult to correct later on.  We understand that some folks come as partners and will give you ample time together with your original partner as well.

What should I wear?

Dressy/Casual attire (no jeans, please). Some of our students come straight from work in office attire. But it’s more important to wear comfortable clothing that allows you to move easily.

What kind of shoes should I wear?

Leather-soled shoes are recommended. If you wear tennis shoes, make sure they slide. It’s hard to dance if your shoes grip the floor.

Where should I start?

This is always the most interesting question. We recommend that the first step is to take action and sign up for the beginner group class that interests you the most.  Even if you have no prior experience, our beginner group classes are the perfect place to start. Here you learn some basic steps, a few moves, proper frame including lead/follow technique; more than enough to give you the confidence to get you on the dance floor. And we are always glad to talk to you and help you decide how to best start. Just give us a call or use the contact us form on our website

What level class should I join?

Our instructors are glad to help you determine the level of dance class to take. This determination is made from discussions we have with you about your past lessons and experience. Our instructors will also evaluate your actual dance once in a class and work with you to see if a different level of class is more appropriate to your skills, and also help you develop a program of instruction and practice to meet your dance goals.

When can I book private lessons?

To book an appointment, you can call (443-517-9575) or e-mail us (dance@allureballroom.com).  Private lessons availability are instructor based but we have at least one instructor on staff 7 days a week as early as 9am - 10pm.

Can I bring a partner to a private lesson? Does it cost more?

Yes! You may bring a partner to your private lessons at no extra cost.
